Existential crisis
Signs of an existential crisis include:
- Feelings of isolation and loneliness
- Awareness of one’s mortality or belief in the absence of an afterlife
- Realization that one’s life lacks purpose or meaning, whether supernatural or simple, other than living for the sake of living
- Disintegration of a sense of reality or worldview
- Awareness of one’s freedom and the consequences of accepting or rejecting it
- Extreme experiences of pleasure or pain that prompt a search for meaning.
